WVC Teams Earn 7 Top 10 Finishes at Nationals
04/15/09 - Of the 13 men's and women's Wisconsin Volleyball Conference teams that competed at the 2009 NCCS National Volleyball Championships (Apr 9-11), seven of them finished in the top 10 of their division. All four Division I men's teams, UW-Oshkosh, Lakeland College, UW-Whitewater and Marquette University, finished in the top 10, while UW-La Crosse and UW-Platteville finished in the top 10 of men's Division II and UW-Oshkosh II finished third in Division III.

UW-Oshkosh lost in one of the most exciting championship matches in recent history to #2 Fresno State 24-26, 27-25, 14-16, to finish as the nation's runner-up. Lakeland College lost in three to Fresno State one round earlier for a 3rd place finish. UW-Whitewater and Marquette University both lost in the opening round of the Gold Bracket to finish tied for 9th place. Whitewater lost to #12 University of Arizona and Marquette University lost to #6 Lakeland College.

In Division II, UW-Platteville lost in the quarterfinals to eventual champion SUNY-Cortland in three games to finish tied for 5th place. UW-La Crosse also made it to the Gold Bracket but lost in the opening round to Ohio Northern. Carthage College finished in the Silver Bracket while UW-Stevens Point and UW-Stout both played in the Bronze Bracket.

Oshkosh II had another good showing in Division III, losing in the semifinal to eventual champion University of Illinois II. Marquette University II suffered some injuries and ended up in the Silver Bracket.

UW-Oshkosh and UW-La Crosse women's teams both finished in the Bronze Bracket of their respective divisions.

The UW-Oshkosh men's volleyball team reached the championship match of the NCCS Division I championship for the fourth time in five years but could not overcome a talented Fresno State University (Calif.) team to capture their third Division I national title.

The Lakeland men's volleyball team fell short of its national title defense, falling 18-25, 25-18, 15-12 in the semifinals to Fresno St. at the NCCS Men's Volleyball Championships in Kansas City, Mo.

For the 12th season in a row, the Marquette men's volleyball team has proven that it has gone into the NIRSA Volleyball Championships under-ranked. That's because the team went into this year's tournament in Kansas City as the No. 17 and finished in gold (No. 9). The Golden Eagles went undefeated in pool play, upsetting the No. 1 seed in their pool UCLA. In the power pool, Marquette lost to a high flying Cal-Berkley team but defeated James Madison to remain in the top tier.

Whitewater had a great tournament this year. The first time in years that UWW has finished in the top 16 in the nation. After a tough pool day one, UWW defeated both Notre Dame and Rutgers University in two straight sets. Due to a reffing mistake, the hawks beat Fresno State the first match 25-0 due to a forfeit! Then Fresno came back and defeated the hawks in 3. Taking second in pool play put the Hawks in a challenge round the next morning.

Oshkosh Wins Seventh WVC Men's Championship
04/06/09 - UW-Oshkosh defeated Lakeland College 25-21, 21-25, 15-11 in the men's championshp match to claim their seventh tournament title in the Wisconsin Volleyball Conference's 18 year history. Both teams finished 13-1 in the WVC regular season standings and shared the regualr season crown.

Marquette II Wins WVC JV Championship
04/06/09 - Marquette II knocked off UW-Oshkosh II in a thrilling 3 game match to claim the junior varsity crown. Oshkosh II, the regular season champions, had been undefeated in the WVC coming into the match. It was a bit of redemption, as Marquette II's only losses of the season came at the hands of Oshkosh II.
Stout Wins WVC Women's Championship
04/06/09 - UW-Stout started tournament play as the #8 seed and went on a run to knock off top seed UW-Platteveille, UW-Whitewater and finally, last year's champion UW-La Crosse in the championship match.
Lakeland Takes Second at MIVA Championships
03/30/09 - One-by-one, The University of Illinois knocked WVC teams out of the MIVA Championship which was held at Northern Illinois University on March 28-29, 2009. Illinois defeated Marquette in the quarter-finals, Oshkosh in the semi-finals and finally, Lakeland in the championship match. Lakeland College finishes second for a third time in major tournaments this season.

Marquette University Pulls Off Stunning Midwest Ten Championship Title
02/28/09 - The Marquette University Golden Eagles entered the Midwest Ten tournament, held in Milwaukee, as the #8 seed and came away with the crown after knocking off NCVF ranked #1 UW-Oshkosh, Notre Dame and #15 Lakeland College, all in three game sets.
Oshkosh II Wins the Western Illinois University Invitational
02/28/09 - The UW-Oshkosh II men's team went undefeated in six matches to win the Western Illinois University Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 28) in Macomb, Illinois. Oshkosh defeated a few NCVF ranked teams to earn the crown: Division II #7 Western Illinois University and #18 St. Louis University, as well as Division I #HM University of Iowa in the championship match.
Lakeland College Finish as Runner-Up in Hoosier-Illini Classic
02/22/09 - The No. 15 Lakeland College compiled a 7-1 record on its way to an impressive runner-up finish at the Hoosier-Illini Classic in Bloomington, Indiana. Lakeland lost in the Championship match to the University of Missouri in a three game set, 25-22, 25-27, 13-15. On the weekend, Lakeland knocked off #3 Illinois, #10 Ohio State and #12 Navy.

#1 ranked UW-Oshkosh breezed through the first day, but wound up taking 3rd place after not being able to put away the University of Missouri in one of the semi-final matches.

Marquette University and UW-Whitewater both lost in the opening round of the Gold bracket, while UW-Platteville defeated the 6th ranked Division I team, Michigan State, on day one, but lost in the second round of the Silver bracket on day two.
New Rankings Announced
02/19/09 - UW-Oshkosh has been named the new #1 ranked Division I team in the nation according to the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation. Lakeland fell to #15, while UW-Whitewater enters the rankings at #25. UW-La Crosse and UW-Platteville are on the Division II rankings as #8 and #17 respectively.
NBBC Coach Dave Herron Honored
01/04/09 - Dave Herron, head coach of the men's and women's volleyball team at Northland Baptist Bible College was recently honored at the American Volleyball Coaches Association convention for acheiving his 300th win for the women's team. In 15 seasons at Northland Baptist Bible College he has amassed a 315-151 record (.676 winning percentage). On the women's side he led his team to the NCCAA Midwest Regional Championship in 2000 and 2002 and was named the Midwest Region Division II Coach of the Year in 2003. In 2007 and 2008 he served as the NCCAA Division II National Chair.

In conference play, Herron and his team captured the Northern Athletic Conference title in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2002. He was named the conference coach of the year in 1999.

Before arriving in Dunbar, Wisconsin, Herron worked at Whittier Christian School in Whittier, California, as athletic director, boys' counselor, physical education/health teacher and head volleyball coach. In 1985, he started a boys' volleyball program and began coaching at the United States Volleyball Association level. His team captured the California State Championship for boys' volleyball in 1991, 1992, and 1993. He holds a 60-match winning streak in boys' high school volleyball in California.

He and his wife (and assistant coach), Barb, have three children - Tyler, Trent, and Tiffany, all of which have played at Northland Baptist Bible College. In 2000, Tyler and the rest of his team won the Division II Wisconsin Volleyball Conference State Championship. That same year, Herron coached in the WVC Division II All-Star match. Since starting the men's volleyball program at Northland Baptist Bible College, the Pioneers have been a consistent threat to capture the WVC Division II State Championship.
Oshkosh to Host WVC Preseason Tournament
11/07/08 - This year's Wisconsin Volleyball Conference Preseason Tournament will be hosted by UW-Oshkosh on November 22, 2008. The tournament is open to all men's and women's WVC and non-WVC club teams, as well as, NAIA, NCAA and adult teams. Cost is $150 for the first team, and $100 for an additional team. If lodging is needed, Gruenhagen Conference Center on the UW-Oshkosh campus will be offering inexpensive rooms.
